Sparrow island is the culmination of a period of time surrounding a holiday to Malta with my wife in late september / early october 2012 , which inspired the ( probably ) infuriatingly catchy title track , and some others such as " view from an aircraft window " , which is supposed to be a musical representation of that moment when you look out an areoplane window and see the earth far below , serene and peaceful , far above the war , butchery , malice and corruption that you would never suspect was going on beneath you , unless you lived on planet earth.
The sight never fails to astound me , as the quiet simplicity of the sun shining through the clouds with seemingly infinite combinations of form and colour detoxes the soul like nothing else can........It was definjtely one of the most definite inspirational triggers for the sparrow island theme.

Sparrow island was actually the name we affectionately gave to a little cafe which sat on a little island in the middle of the promenade in St.Julians Bay , where the sparrows were very prolific and very tame. This , above all else , epitomised the whole trip for me , as it was so idyllic.

Consequently , a lot of the material ended up being about geographical themes such as location , direction etc.....
True North has an underlying deeper meaning about spiritual direction , and Horizon Upgrade is about broadened horizons , and Meridian ...again about latitude and longitude , also has an experimental kinda mediterranean feel to it .
